success stories

Sorry for the delay in expressing my gratitude. I should have written
this mail as soon as I got my TOEFL scores. I wouldn’t have got a
score of 110 (Writing - 29, Reading - 29, Listening - 29, Speaking -
23) without your guidance and support.

I was very poor at speaking, the first time I gave my TOEFL Practice
test I couldn’t even speak a word, felt so nervous and the time
pressure was a little too much, but thanks to your One on One Sessions
I got a 23 on that. The amount of confidence had in my abilities kept
me motivated.

I enjoyed your classes a lot. Am surprised I dint feel like
absenting myself for any of your classes. Pity I had to book my Test
date before the completion of your classes. But the tips which you
gave on the writing session were the most useful.

I have come across very few teachers like you who take so much of
interest in their students and who are ready to help them out anytime.
It only reflects how much passion you got for teaching and if you can
make a very ordinary student like me get 110 in TOEFL it only shows
how good you are at teaching. But am not surprised by how good you
are, for I had judged you when you said “Mayur, for me work is
worship”

To cut the long story short, YOU ARE JUS TOO GOOD.

Thank you once again.

With Respect and Regards,
Mayur

Hi,

Just wanted to thank you for all your guidance and help, esp. those word mnemonics and crosswords that we used to spend an hour on, in every class. They really helped. From my first score of 390 in the Diagnostic Test, you will be glad to know that I have finally procured 610 in the final GRE exam.
My total was 1360 with 610 in verbal + 750 in math.

Thanks again for being such a wonderful teacher. Will keep you posted on how my application process works out.
Take care.

regards,
madhurim

English Language Program

Manya English Language Program encompasses test preparation services for TOEFL and IELTS, Spoken English Program, Voice and Accent Training, and Personality Development Program.

Test Preparation

Manya provides test-preparation services to enhance English language skills. For candidates applying to premier institutions worldwide, scores in these exams that test language proficiency are vital:

- IELTS (International English Language Testing System): The IELTS is a direct English language assessment, jointly managed by the University of Cambridge , the British Council and IDP Education, Australia. Know more

- TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language): The TOEFL is a multiple-choice test for non-native English speakers. It is a prerequisite for admission in colleges and universities, where the medium of instruction is English. Know more

Manya in association with the Princeton Review understands these tests better than others in India . We secure all the study material directly from the Princeton Review in the USA in order to maintain our universal standards. Weak areas are discussed with the faculty and corrective measures are suggested in order to facilitate an enhanced performance in the tests. The class size is small, thus ensuring a more personalized interaction with the students. We also conduct interactive speaking and listening tutorials. Manya is the first in India to launch the new iBT (internet-based test) to replace the earlier CBT (computer-based test).

Spoken English Program

Manya has also launched English speaking courses to help students speak English fluently and get over initial fears that they may have of mastering the language. We help them to be at par with their international counterparts throughout their ‘study abroad’ endeavor. Through the Spoken English Program, we help students to meet their aspirations of reaching out to foreign universities for their dream education and also for immigration purposes.

Voice and Accent Training

The objective of the program is to equip BPO aspirants with a global accent that would help them to get entry into BPOs, and excel professionally. The program would focus on neutralizing the accent of the candidates, remove the MTI (Mother Tongue Influence) and give them exposure to the multinational culture.

General Management Program vs. Special Management Programs

Students have the opportunity to pursue either a general management program or complete a specialization as part of the MBA program. Specializations are a matter of choice, not a prerequisite, and all students receive the same MBA education regardless of whether they complete a specialization. Students should consider their career goals and professional development in settling on a specialization. As more and more universities offer MBA programmes, it is becoming ever more difficult for candidates to decide on which business school offers the most suitable MBA programme to meet their requirements. Many business schools are digressing from the ‘generalist’ system, which has been the typical MBA model for the last thirty years. Today you can choose from a wide range of MBA specializations, ranging from an MBA in Financial Studies, as well as Insurance and Risk Management Accountancy and Finance, to an MBA in Sports Management, or even an MBA in Technology.

The trend towards one-year niche, or specialist MBAs, designed for particular groups of professional people, appears to be market driven. Some fields may be nearly impossible to enter without specialized training. Research your chosen industry to determine whether a specialty program may be a better alternative for you than a generalist MBA degree.

US schools in particular, reject the specialist MBA model. Their two-year format allows MBA students to be generalists in their first year, whilst specializing in their chosen field in their second year.

Shape your studies to complement all that make you inimitable — education, experience, aptitudes, interests, passions. Famous MBA schools abroad all have their own specialties; for example, Harvard Business School is at the head of the class in commercial management, the University of Chicago Graduate Business School in financial management, and the Kellogg School of Management in marketing.

MBA in Finance

In the US the finance department has become a battleground for business school supremacy. With the high profile of Wall Street amongst MBA recruiters, finance is one of the most eminent disciplines.

Finance is such an intricate and diverse industry that many schools have large sectors dedicated to the subject. Most of the world’s investment banks are staffed primarily by MBA graduates from schools with a strong background in finance. After several quiet years, demand for MBAs within one of the most popular sectors for business school graduates – investment banking – is back with a vengeance. According to the 2005 Top MBA.com Recruiter and Salary Survey, which canvasses opinions from recruiters in 30 countries around the world, demand is up by 20%, taking it to a level not witnessed since the bursting of the dotcom bubble at the beginning of the millennium.

For the go-getting MBA, whatever his or her gender or racial background, it means that investment banking is rapidly becoming an aspired field. Banks realize that they need to emulate the diversity and experience of their clients and are making great efforts to achieve this through, recruitment, retention and development. Background and potential, however, are just the commencement and it’s consequently no surprise that investment banks are some of the biggest per capita spenders on training and development of all MBA recruiters.

London Business School has long had a dominant finance faculty, which has only been enhanced since it developed the highly successful one year Masters in Finance (MiF) in the mid-1990s. Yet Janet Dobson, Director of the MiF, endorses the view that: “a specialist Masters like the MiF is very different from our generalist two year MBA. It is proposed for finance junkies…76% of our MiF class already have an MBA or management degree.”

MBA in Health (Pharmaceuticals)

Now worth well in excess of $500 billion per annum, the pharmaceuticals industry is a key player in the worldwide economy as more and more MBA s are opting for this trendy field. The industry’s largest market remains North America, which accounts for nearly half of all pharmaceutical sales, with Europe taking second place at around 30% of total worth. However, this may be all set to change over the next decade. While growth in North America hovers at around 8%, both Latin America and Asia are forging ahead with growth figures well into double digits.

Johnson & Johnson is alone expecting to hire as many as 300 full-time and 150 intern MBAs in the 2006-07 season. As is the case in many key industries, MBAs tend to be recruited by the pharmaceutical sector, as much for their potential as for any specific previous experience, although academic training in the sciences or a background in such areas as sales or marketing can sometimes prove to your advantage.

MBA in Consultancy

Most consultancy firms see a top MBA as a fundamental management entry-level qualification. Without an MBA, it is almost impossible to become a senior consultant in a top-consulting firm. The MBA seems to have moved from a ‘nice to have’ to a ‘need to have’ qualification for those set on an international management consultancy career. According to the Survey, top consultancies are predicting average base salaries for new MBA hires of US $94,000, while one North American firm has reported making offers of as much as US $117,500. Average salaries for MBAs graduating from US schools are on the whole only very slightly higher than those from European schools. 2006 is revealing consulting job listings running well ahead of 2005, and has seen increased hiring from all the major strategy consulting firms as well as the systems integrators like Accenture, IBM and Cap Gemini. Accenture customarily hires between 10,000 and 17,000 people, globally, each year.

MBA in Information Technology

Students interested in careers in management consultancy, software or database development, enterprise management systems, telecommunication and business analysis must opt for the specialization and will be recognized as having a thorough IT background. IT graduates play essential roles on the business team, typically designing and implementing hardware and software solutions to business problems. They hold professional positions in areas such as client/server or web applications development, systems analysis and network administration. They constitute the important workforce as technical and management professionals in a variety of industries. Students obtaining such a certificate usually acquire positions in the top management consulting firms or as strategic analysts in the transportation, telecommunications, and financial sector.

Graduates are expected to possess the appropriate knowledge, experience and skills to adapt to change in this dynamic field through a lifelong learning process. They are prepared to help shape twenty-first century organizations in a rapidly changing, globally competitive, technologically sophisticated environment. The program is designed to develop a diverse and integrated group of experts armed with the necessary skills for building new entrepreneurial ventures.

MBA in Telecommunications

Technical convergence changes everything. An MBA in this particular field equips students with a global vision of the business convergence process currently taking place and poised to form one of the major industries of the 21st century. A full time program from Instituto de Empresa Business School organized in collaboration with Accenture, international leading partner, is oriented to innovative professionals of any background who want to plan a career path in the digital economy, either as a key player in a leading multinational or as an entrepreneur.

Telecommunications have made huge leaps forward in the past two decades. It is one of the fastest growing industries in the world. The emphasis is on the value added services, such as e-mail, cellular phones, WAP etc in developed countries and in improving basic telephone availability in the developing countries. This sector plays a key role in encouraging growth in the industrial and services sector.

MBA in Media

This one-of–a kind MBA is geared to professionals already working in media. It was specifically designed to provide graduates with the foundation, skills, and competencies required to both understand and function within the complex legal, ethical, economic, and social dimensions of media management.

Admission to this program requires entering students to have prior media, art or media related business expertise. Students come from a wide array of backgrounds in communication arts; radio; television; film; music; fine arts; gallery and arts administration; museum administration; law; education; business management; marketing; public relations; creative writing; journalism; multimedia; publishing; e-commerce; theatre; dance; and opera.

Each semester combines academic study with actual managerial experience. In the first semester, students focus their efforts on creating a comprehensive business plan for a media-related venture designed to satisfy a need, realize an opportunity, or address a challenge within a given media industry. In the second semester, students implement aspects of their business plans and in the third semester they develop and implement a marketing plan to promote their respective media ventures

Schulich offers Canada’s only MBA with a specialization in arts and media administration. The specialization is suitable for students who have either work experience in the cultural sector or an undergraduate education in areas of the arts such as music, theatre, dance or the visual arts, or areas of the cultural media such as film studies or literary studies. Schulich graduates from the arts and media administration specialization fill such positions as: general manager and marketing and development directors of major performing and visual arts organizations; cultural policy analysts at all levels of government; owners of entrepreneurial endeavors in the cultural sector; and business managers in the film industry.

MBA in Services

The financial services sector is undergoing profound and rapid change. Organizations require professionals who understand the dynamics of the industry, and the broad direction and implications of the forces of change. Such professionals must have a strong foundation in skills that will be relevant to a critically important and fast-changing industry. These skills include areas such as marketing, strategy, real property development and organizational behavior/industrial relations. They also include finance and financial engineering skills, which are particularly relevant to manage risk in the sector. The program is designed to compliment these skills by providing students with an appreciation of how this important industry sector is changing, and the implications of this change for the application of these skills. The program adds value to students who wish to work in the financial services industry.

The program stresses relevance as well as rigor. To this end, it is committed to developing relationships with firms and senior executives in the financial sector that can provide ‘real-world’ perspectives on current issues.

Q80. esp. sir I want to start my preparation for GMAT but I dont have any authentic source for that and I also have to do job so please guide me about that and share all the relevant information that u can.
I’ll be very thankful to u
thanking u.

A80.There is a lot of material available online. KAPLAN, The Princeton Review , GMAT Prep(mba.com), Power prep etc are some of the good ones. I suggest you do as many practice test from them as possible. For more information refer to http://doiop.com/f7836e . You can also join a coaching place, The Princeton Review is recommended.

Q79.I’ve posted before.
I am too young for an MBA.
I should wait for a year or two
Now I am planning to apply for a business-related MS MSC or MA
In the US or in UK
My GPA is low
Would a high GMAT help me compensate it?
I dont think these schools require a GMAT.

A79. Yes a good GMAt score will definitely help. Besides scores, GPA, your SOPs, LORs, Resume and work experience also make a difference. I think you should concentrate on your positives and try for a good GMAT score. Refer to http://tiniuri.com/?f=CJ for details.

Q78.I have a Masters in Engineering, now, at 26, after working a couple of
years I will likely be going to the University of Britsh Colmbia to do. a MSc in Finance (I got interested in it, when i took a derivatives
course in grad school, and scored 750 on the GMAT).
Also, the prof I have spoken to at the university is strongly
encouraging me to do a PhD afterward…I might like to do so, the only
thing really holding me back is my age, and the fact that a PhD takes
5 years (seems sort of ridiculus) . Anyone have any advice on doing a
PhD? If you get a PhD from a top 5 university how hard is it to get a
good academic position (not at a community college or equivalent)? Are
there any other positions PhD’s regularly get? I assume the situation for
Canada and the USA would be similar. How much do starting profs get paid in canada and the US?

A78.Go for MS- PhD program as it is easier to get admission and financial aid this way. If along the way you dont want to do a PhD, you can always drop out after completing the MS program. PhD’s can start their tenure as Assistant Professors and go on from there. Research options at top companies are also available. Refer to http://www.manyagroup.com/modules.php?name=25a4_Mba_Articles for more info

Question gmat score
Hi everybody.
Has anyone know if an University can ask score of mine from Pearson Vue itself, if I send only scan copy of my gmat certificate to the University (this University does not have institutional code)?

A77.The format is that you must send your scores to the colleges by asking Pearson to do so, by paying them a fee. You can not send your scores directly, colleges wont accept it. For details refer to http://surl.se/gdzb

Q75.Hi,I am new to this site. I am planning to give GMAT in the next 4 months. Can you suggest a good book for GMAT for preparation especially maths. There are many versions of Princeton as well as kaplan. Which to choose? Also is there any website where I can give mock GMAT tests where the charge is not very high.

A75. Both are good. You can get an idea of the Princeton material at http://manyagroup.com/modules.php?name=20c4_Gmat_Preparing Mock GRE - and GMAt tests are also availale at http://www.manyagroup.com

Q74.GMAT on 28 Aug - please advise ..
Friends,
I have scheduled my GMAT for the 2nd attempt on 28th Aug. With exactly a month to go, I have started to take full length practise tests. But I am not performing good and need your advise.I would appreciate if you can spare sometime to read the below.

A week ago - Manhattan GMAT test 1 - 550 (V-31;Q-32 pathetic)
Today - Manhattan GMAT test 2 - 620 (V-33,Q-42)

Today’s test experience :
Quans - It was really tough , I would say way beyond the GMAT standars by all means. It took me 44 min. for the 1st 15 qns. with just 12/15 correct in it.
Verbal - RC was the spoiler (just 3/12 correct); SCs and CRs were of moderate difficulty level.Infact RCs were also not tough, but I screwed it up.

Advise / suggesstions needed for Verbal:
1.With just a month to go for the test, can some one pls. let me know of any successful RC strategies ?
2.I follow the below verbal time split.
Qns 1 - 15 : 30 - 31 min.
Qns 16 - 30 : 28 min.
Qns 31 - 41 : 16 min.
Can some one please let me know if any other better strategy could be followed.I am aiming for a good hit rate in the 1st 30 qns.
3.Also the last RC falls between 31 - 41 qns. and I really lose the contest here. I just glance the RC for less than a min. and answer the qns. Most of the time I get 4/4 wrong - . Any better strategy could be followed for the last 11 ques. ?
As far as quans. is concerned, I think I need to practise a lot.
For the next 1 month, I plan to use the following resources for preps.:
1.OG 11
2.GMAT ETS paper tests
3.GMAT Sets(to gauge my verbal performance)
4.1000 RC for Verbal
5.Last but not least TM forum

A73.Hey, yes you can apply as GMAT scores are valid for 5 years. Scores for GMAT are usualy averaged. It depends on you, how much you know and what is your potential. You should decide on your own. I would say you join a coaching because it will help to be in an environment where everyone has a common goal. I suggest you join The Princeton review, they have good coaching institutes all over India. Please refer to http://manyagroup.com/modules.php?name=20c4_Gmat_Preparing

This week I read the Princeton Review book and the Kaplan 800 book and in the remaining two weeks I am going to read the Official Guide. I have read around the forums but am still a little confused as to how you guys get estimates of your scores prior to taking the actual test. Do I have to buy the computer tests off the GMAT website? I just want an estimate just to know where I am. Thanks a lot.

A57.Practice tests are great help in assessing where you stand, your strengths and your weakness. Many of them should be available online. You can take one available on the web by The Princeton Review. Refer to http://www.manyagroup.com

I have got a bad GMAT score of 420 can anybody suggest any uni for this, Although i have already got admissions to QUT,RMIT,UTS, CEUbased on work exp and academics shall i go for them or improve the score.

A56.Well dear to be honest with you as per my knowledge GMAT is just a test which is required to get admission into various universities and if have got the admission in the university then I don’t think that you should appear for GMAT agin but would strongly suggest you to invest al leat half an hours time to meet any one of these professional people before taking a decision.

Q51.Hi all,I am new to GMAT planning to take it in late july or early august.
Need recommendation of the reference books.

A51. The Princeton Review, The big red book etc. Also  http://www.manyagroup.com/modules.php?name=20c4_Gmat_Preparing can help. I suggest you do as many practice tests in the mean time.

Q50..I took the first GMATPrep test 3 weeks ago and scored 690 (Q49, V35). Prior to taking the test I had gone over most of the OG11 questions. Yesterday, after having studied for 3 weeks, I took one of the 800score-dot-com practise tests and… got 630 (Q39, V39).I mean, what the hell? I realize that I was a little bit careless on the quant section but it seems to me that the math on GMATPrep was wy easier than on the 800score exa Are those practise exams any good? Which one is the most accurate indicator of how well one would do on the real GMA
A50.Stick with the reputed ones like The Princeton Review. Take others for practice, if not for accurate scores at least you will do some revision and you will get used to the format. For info on GMAT prep goto http://www.manyaeducation.com/gmat/gmat_prep.php. Q49..I’m going to begin studying for the GMAT. What study guides/books/CDs do you recommend that helped you the most?

A49.There is a lot of material available online. KAPLAN, The Princeton Review , GMAT Prep(mba.com), Power prep etc are some of the good ones. I suggest you do as many practice test from them as possible. For more information refer to http://www.manyaeducation.com/gmat/gmat_prep.php. You can also join a coaching place, The Princeton Review is recommended.Q48.can anybody tell me? Hello friends! I have question regarding university ranking of US universities. when I am searching for the university ranking. It is given that particular univesity is first tier/second tier/third tier. But how do I know that particular university comes under which tier in my area of interest. Second thing I would like to know is, under university ranking details it is written thatSelectivity - selective/more selective/most selective—-What does it mean? Please let me know, if anybody knows about it. Thank you very much.

A48.Please don’t go after the rankings, they don’t provide you with the complete picture. US news and other private players generally have their own set of criteria for ranking schools, student-teacher ratio, infrastructure, research facilities etc are some of these. You have equal if not better opportunities for jobs if you graduate from a so called tier 2 college. Selectiveness is basically just a ratio of number of students who applied and those who were accepted. Naturally top private colleges rank high on this as they have huge applicant pool but give only a few admissions as compared to State colleges. For info refer to http://www.manyaeducation.com/programs_and_careers/ms_phd/programs_ms_applications.php

Q47.well this is my first post as an MBA student (this is my first semster)i put before many posts on this forum but this when i was seeking a good score on the GMAT test, and needless to say that Testmagic helped me a lot. Thus, i back again with full hope to get help on my MBA assignments and exams, actually on my course on “Managing Organizations” we took one of HBS case studies “Rob Parson at Morgan Stanley”.and my problem is that this kind of questions is totally new for me , thus i don’t know how to tackle the question, how to answer, what to put(theory or imprical examples. if anyone has an idea to help me on this, he/she is most welcomed

A47.Hey check out few example ‘case studies’ on the web. Now you are going to be using this forum for your class assignments too refer to http://www.manyaeducation.com

Q46.Hello Friends, I have a basic query. I wrote GMAT 2 years back and before the test selected a set of 5 B-schools to where my scores were to be sent. I ended up not applying that year. Now I am thinking of applying this year. I want to know if I will have to pay for additional score reporting even if I choose the same set of 5 B-schools which I had chosen earlier. regards ~previr

A46.The colleges are supposed to keep your record for at least a couple of years. Your scores are valid for 5 years. I suggest you talk to the admission authorities of the college and if they insist then you might have to send the scores again. In that case you may have to pay for each reporting. Please refer to http://www.manyaeducation.com/gmat/gmat_overview.php.

Q45.Difference between MIS and MBA in information systems I wanted to know the difference between MIS and MBA in information systems. i also wanted know about the career prospective for Both. i have been working in information technology for 3 years and i am not able to decide which one to take.

A45.For starters MIS - management in information system is offered as MS program in the Decision Sciences department of most US colleges. MBA on the other hand is a different program altogether. MS programs is more technically oriented than the MBA program. Career prospects in both are good specially in US, however the nature of careers are slightly different. For more info., refer to http://shorl.com/pastusobylopro Q44..I was wondering which schools had the best programs for MBA for eccomerce businesses.(

A44.Most top business schools have good programs for e-commerce and related fields. The top ones are Wharton, Harvard, MIT Sloan etc. Lally school of Management at RPI, and several state universities also offer good MBA programs. I suggest you look up http://xrl.us/wpx6 for further information.

Q43.PostPosted: Wed Nov 01, 2006 2:06 am Post subject: A little mentoring please Reply with quote Hi all I am new to this forum. Was wondering if you guys can help me understand the criteria and also mentor a little?A little Background: I am 33, Masters Degree in US (Comp Science) and work experience of 10 years (5 years in Big 5). I am interested in taking GMAT and applying for April(07). Applying at 34 makes sense? Do the admissions committes take it as bit too much? I read the avg age is 28. Pl. advise.

A43.There is no problem. You should go ahead and take the GMAT. Admission committee should see it as an effort to reinvent yourself according to the modern global framework. Get all your info on GMAT, refer to http://xrl.us/wkux. Your record is good, so you don’t need to worry. Concentrate on tests and selecting colleges. Q42.Hi all. Just wondering if anyone here who took the GMAT saw some of the exact same questions as the ones on the GMATPrep. I heard this happened to someone once. Just wondering if it was true. Thanks.

A42.I suggest you dont fall for this. The important thing is to know how to solve the problems. The chances are you might see a couple of questions that you may have done before, but this is rare and one can not depend on this. Is suggest you get a better hold of topics that are covered in GMAT. Its not that difficult. For more info. refer to http://xrl.us/wkux

Q34. Hi Friends, Wanted to start this thread to get some perspective from different students about Canadian Visa. For me this is becoming extremely painful. I have submitted my application along with passport on 10th of this month. VFS people mentioned that I should expected my passport by 15th. Today is 18th and still no traces of my passport. Have mailed them but no reply yet. Can anyone of you help me understand what should I expect now. Please share anything you know/experienced about Canadian Visa process.

A34.You are right, this is strange. I think you should try to get information from the consulate authorities themselves. They should know the best. We can only try to guess which is not a good way. For further details on Canadian Visa refer to STUDY ABROAD VISA PROCESS

Q32.I’m just beginning to study for the GMAT–I’m going to probably take it in mid-July. I’ve bought OG 11 and OG Purple, but I heard that the GMATPrep tests have overlap between the two. I’d like those scores to be indicative, so should I hold off on using OG and usinig Kaplan and PR first and do GMATPrep and OG last?

A32.Well cant do much about the overlaps or common material. However what is important is the procedure. The scores will definitelybe indicative, but if you want to assess, you can try more practice tests. You can refer to GMAT PREP TESTS

Q31.Hi, Can somebody please tell me how the scoring in gmat prep software works ? I took the first practice test and got a 710 with M49 and V39. Is there a possibility of a software error that has increased my score by 50 odd points ? How can a 90 percentile in Maths and 89 in Verbal translate to 94 percentile overall? And this after I chose 0.2 as the lesser of 0.2 and 0.04 in one of the questions.

A31.Great!. My suggestion is to take the test as soon as possible i.e. as soon as you feel prepared. That ways you will get one of the requirements out of the way. To get answer to all your questions and more comprehensive overview refer to GMAT PREP software

Q30.Hi everyone I’m a new member and i need your help. I am registered to take the Gmat on June 16, and i’m thinking of taking a course… cannot decide which one…i am also considering to postpone the test date since im not scoring my goal…not even close!!! right now im scoring around 550 and i am aiming for the 700s. Q29. Hello friends, Anyone taking GMAT in June 2007 ?? Let’s gear up and pace up our preparations!! I have started with the Maths Sets and hope to get done with that over the weekend. Do reply back and stay in touch…. Sweety
A29.Hello, are you guys preparing for it on your own? I am taking classes in order to prepare for the test. I would suggest doing as many practice papers as possible in order to get familar with the test. I am getting my information from manya GMAT prep
Q28.please advise……
should I be prepared to report and choose schools for the real gmat?
in case of a bad scenario, ?
we get an option of 5 schools, but I am scared that what if I don’t do well and my scores are reported???
please advise.
A28.GMAT scores are valid for 5 years. Most top colleges in US are looking for 700 and above. You can take GMAT as often as you like, most business schools will average your scores. Better still find out from the colleges that you are applying to. They are your best guide. Some of them may choose only your best. For more information on GMAT you can try Manya GMAT help
Q27..I am sure Most of you would be knowing about 5 Computer Adaptive tests by 800score

I just want to know how are these tests if anyone has already used them?
Are they Computer Adaptive?
Is there score prediction close to GMAT or is it all messed up like KAPLAN?
Which one would be better in terms of questions levels and practice KAPLAN or 800Score?
Also at the end.. what are your comments about the score predictions by Manhattan Online tests and Princeton Review tests? Do they predict your scores generally lower than what it atually would be?
Also one final question…Do all these onlines tests, 88, MGMAT, KAPLAN and PR all have TEST questions which do not count towards your final score in the same way as we have in actual GMAT?

A27.Yes, they are computer adaptive tests. The score prediction is close to GMAT but not exact. Both 800 and KAPLAN are kind of same. More people prefer KAPLAN and it is more popular.Manya Education are good too. They don’t scale your scores so I don’t think they predict it lower.Yes most of them try to follow the GMAT format to the finish.Q26.im totally new to gmat, never tried taking an exam….i went to their official site and i see there are 3 sections, verbal, math and writing.in this forum, i see people all talking about verbal and math, and no one ever mentioned writing…is there something that im missing?!what is also rc sc cr?
A26.Yes, GMAT has three sections 1) Analytical Writing 2) Verbal section and 3) Quantitative Section.

1) Analytical Writing consists of two, 30 minute essays to be written on the computer
The purpose of analytical writing is to see if the examinee can:
a) Articulate complex ideas clearly and effectively b) Examine claims and accaompanying evidence and c) Support ideas with relevant reasons and examples.
You may visit Manya Education site
cr - critical reasoning, rc - reading comprehension, sc - sentence correction

Q25.Can someone please provide insight as to a general time frame from which to approach the journey of test preparation assuming a matriculation date of 2008.

I have begun studying and plan on taking the test in June. Contingent upon me receiving an acceptable score will this provide me with sufficient time to apply.

A25.It’ a good idea to take the test as soon as possible so that you have enough time to asses where you stand and what you need to do. Ideally its a 8 month process, but one can do it faster if guided properly. There are lot of places you can look for reference on the net.Since you are new to GMAT I would suggest you visit Manya Test GMAT and get familiar with the format and structure.

Q24..Any people that don’t have 3.8 gpa’s and 700 on their gmat? Anyone around a 600 and a 2.6 like me? Any plans?(

A24.While the average scores at Harvard,Wharton and INSEAD are in 700’s, there are other less prestigious but good schools will have average scores that may be in the 500s or even less.

It may be possible to ovecome a low GMAT score with an impressive portfolio of good work experience (2-3 years), outstanding references and good essays. Not every one scores a 700 and get a 4.0 GPA, yet there is a college for almost everyone. You can also have a look at the Princeton review’s web page or simply refer to Manya study GMAT for more info.

Q23.Is anybody out there pursuing PhD and aspire to do an MBA. What are your focus and how you feel about the transition?( A23.I personally have not heard of anyone who is pursuing a PhD and aspries to do an MBA. I would suggest put your focus on either one and try to finish at least one of them depending on what you want to do.
Transition can be done, if that is what you want but it is very important you figure out what you intend to do in future.
You can also try to get in touch with consellors and instituitions that can guide you and also help you in transition if it appears to be a good idea. JOIN THIS LINK MANYA Education

Q22.can anybody help me out with the time that i need to invest religiously to get a good GMAT score. I am currently in an IT firm and can invest only 1hr on weekdays and 5 hrs on weekends.

A22.Hi, I have known people who have got excellent scores by spending just four hours a week on their test preparation. In the end its about the quality of time and not the quantity.I would suggest you join a study group or a similar setup with those who are well aware of the GMAT format. Your time investment could be minimum but you will get alot more out of it than trying to do everything on your own. It is best to be well prepared before you sit for the exam as it deals with your future career at the same time, it can be done wisely with optimal time managment as in your case.
I have heard Princeton review has weekend classes in their centres all over India. See if you can join such classes. They are indeed great help for timely challenged. Manya help for GMAT for your reference.

Q21.I am planning to take the GMAT test in June, 2007. From some forum i came to know that it is always adivised to apply in the round 1 if some one is seriously counting on the Financial AID.If I go with June, Will I be left with ample amount of time for Essays and App’ing ( August, 2008 ) ?
Some one Please suggest. Venkat
A21.Hey Venkat, its a good decisions to take the test as soon as possible. This will leave you ample time to re-take the test if required and also time to apply to your choice of colleges. Financial aid is dependent on your complete profile including the test scores.. I think you do have time provided you use it wisely. I have my H-1 file this year and waiting for approval. As everybody knows, this time they are gonna randomly choose the applications so nobody knows who is gonna be accepted. Now I want to prepare myself for that.
My OPT expires 10th of july,07 and Possible H1 is gonna start from OCT 1st . Even after 60 days grace period, I have a gap of almost 22 days. So for this, I have to get some sort of status.
1. I have the option to get admission in MS after my OPT expires and keep the work and education get going together.
—OR—-
2. Some body told me [ didn’t give the whole information though] that I should take admission in Kaplan for GRE or GMAT classes. I have been at there website. To me it seems like they offer classes for one month. How does that work? Don’t i have to enroll for 12 credits to maintain the status.
I’m more interested in number 2nd if that works. Please share any ideas, if you have.
thanks
A18.After your OPT expires you can come back to India and wait until you get your H-1. If you don’t want to take that risk i would suggest you to get admission in the MS program just so that you have a legal status. You can always drop it later after you have your H-1. refer to Manya GRE,GMAT classes for more visa details if any.

Q17.where can i get free guides or materials for mba entrance exam preparation?

A17.Some of my friends have taken services from Manya MBA guides Material . They say its pretty good. You can get alot of information online.

Q16.am preparing for GMAT. I am taking all the help from the internet. But the Critica Thinking Section is confusing me. Recently, I have started learning logic which teaches categorical syllogisms but the type of questions I see in this subject are completely different from what they ask in the GMAT. I have also consulted Barrons GMAT preparation book but it didn’t offered much help. So, please someone guide me on how to prepare for this Section by telling what topics to cover and what subject to study.
Also please tell me wheather Categorical Syllogism is worth studying or not.

A16.I used to have the same problem, I realized that I need some outside help to get this part done. You can refer to Manya education !

Q14.Hello to all my friends . Please send me details of MBA .

A14.Hello Manya group GMAT this is to start you with assuming you are interested in MBA abroad and looking to have an idea on GMAT etc. This should give you a good understanding on the subject.Q13.Hi Guys
I am new to this group, so want say HELLO to ALL.
I want to ask 3 things:-
1. I am working in an IT company, and want to give GMAT within 4 months. I would like to join any good coaching centers in Hyderabad (only on weekends).
Can any one from HYD suggest me some good places, where I can join.

A13.Hello, depends how you want to prepare. You can do it on your own using test material from KAPLAN, The Princeton review etc. However joining a coaching is a good idea, I would suggest you try Manya - The Princeton review for your coaching in hyderabad. A lot of my friends have to say good things about them. Mnaya Education for your reference.Q12.. Is it worth to join a course or can we do it on our own(self study). Just to add I am lazy and I get bored when I sit alone and try to learn ,example learning tricks to solve problem on algorithms.
Any suggestion would be appreciated.

A12.Depends on you, but if you have any doubts i would recommend you to join a course. Most of them are for small durations but since a lot of people are preparing with you, it gives a big boost in a short amount of time. The Princeton review has some good centers in India for test preparations. You can refer to Mnaya GMAT Study for more information.

Q11.Hi friends, can someones suggest me the study material with which i can start my prep for GMAT…
Regards,
A 11.Hey Vrushali, you can use test material from KAPLAN and The Princeton review for self preparation. The Princeton review also has preparatory classes which are really good. Depending on which ever option suits you you can start your preparation. manya group GMAT for further details.
Q10.I am planning to take GMAT and i studying for cat 06 too. I am focussing on singapore universities and ISB along with all the colleges in INDIA and i have a 2 year work exp too. What would be an ideal time to take GMAT and what score is required to get into a good college abroad.

A10.Ideally you should start your preparations at least six months in advance but very few people do it. I suggest you take the GMAT as soon as you are prepared to take it. This will give you time to apply to the colleges and also retake the test in case you want to. 650+ works, 700+ will give you a lot more advantage in terms of applying to the best colleges abroad. you can refer toManya GMAT prep for more details into GMAT.

Q7.Erin/Gurus:
I am about to start preparations and looking to appear for the test by end of 2007 (with breaks between now and then). Per Erin’s suggested study plan, I am planning to get a practice book (The Official Guide for GMAT Review, 11th Edition) & a strategy book (Kaplan GMAT, 2007 Edition: Premier Program (Kaplan Gmat (Book & CD-Rom)). Are these good choices to begin with?

A7.You seem to have almost everything to start you with. However it is doing it, Manya Education where all the effort is required. If you can self-study its the best but if like me you can not then i would suggest attending a test preparation centre. , is a good place. It helps to be with others who are also doing the same thing.

A5. Sanket, I suggest you join The Princeton Review center, the location in Hydreabad are manya education . It helps because there are other people too preparing for the same test. So the preparation is easier. As for verbal skills again flash cards, playing vocab. games (dumb charade etc) also improves these skills. However you need a group of similar minded people to get faster results. That’s why I recommend you to join a course. SEE THIS LINK Manya EducationQ4.Hi…Planning to give GMAT sometime in June.
Studying for past 2 months now. Not finding much of a problem in Maths.
But yet to get grip on verbal section. Using GMAC Official Guide & Cracking GMAT by Princeton for study.

(Maths 47 & Verbal 23 or so)
Can anyone give me some good tips to improve on score…
My target is atleast 680 plus…
Thx in advance

A4.Hello Sachin, verbal is what most of us find difficult. I think you are using all the right material for your test preparation. I find discussing words, flashcards and playing word games with similar minded friends help. You could get together with some friends, play games like dumb charade etc. Its both entertainment and learning. Other suggestion would be to join a training center. count towards your final score in the same way as we have in actual GMAT?

Manya Abroad-The Princeton Review’s Admissions Counseling Service (ACS) is a comprehensive, specialized service aimed at optimizing an applicant’s chances of gaining admission into the best possible foreign universities. The ACS team comprises professionals with specialist knowledge and expertise in international admissions processes, from the selection of universities to the completion of applications, right up to the visa interview.

If you are applying for admissions abroad, you would have a million questions. The following is a compilation of some frequently asked questions addressed to our ACS team, along with their responses. We hope you find them useful!

Frequently Asked Questions

• I have a 680 GMAT score and I want to apply to the top business schools. Should I retake the GMAT?

Standardized scores are only one of the evaluative criteria for admission. 680 is a fair score, and as such it does not put you out of the competition for any good school. We recommend that you take some practice tests and realistically evaluate the increase you can hope for in retaking the exam. If it is only 20-40 points, we suggest that you focus on your essays and on making the rest of your application stand out.

I have an average GPA and good test scores. Can I apply to the top B-schools?

We encourage all students to apply to their Dream schools, while counselling them extensively in choosing “safety” and “match” schools. With great essays and good scores, no school is out of your reach.

My GPA is average but I have great extra-curricular activities and achievements. Should I explain my GPA in my personal statement or focus on my non-academic achievements?

As a general rule, avoid focusing on or even mentioning your weaknesses in your essay, unless you can turn them into positive experiences and demonstrate the lessons you learned from them and the personal growth that resulted.

I have below average scores for my dream university, but it is the only place I want to apply to.

We strongly encourage you to apply to a combination of carefully selected schools, and your dream university should certainly be one of them. Putting all your hopes and energy into a single application is not a great idea for even the strongest applicants, but we understand that this is ultimately your choice. Whether you apply to only your dream university or to other schools as well, put your best efforts in writing your application, and then be realistic about the outcome.

Who should I get my recommendations from?

This will depend on the program or course you are applying for. As a general rule of thumb, it is always better to get insightful and personal recommendations from people who know you well and can speak about your strengths, rather than generic or impersonal recommendations from famous or important people. Recommendations from family or friends should be avoided under all circumstances!

Many experiences have shaped my beliefs and values. Which should I include in my statement of purpose for postgraduate programs? Can I include non-professional, non-academic experiences?

There is no prescribed formula regarding the kind of experiences that belong in your essays or statements of purpose. A successful essay can focus on the most personal or seemingly insignificant events, as long as you write about them vividly, passionately and insightfully. It is always better to focus on a single experience and describe it in detail rather than mention a number of events or ideas colourlessly. And remember, the only reason for an admissions essay is so that the reader can get to know you, so keep the focus on yourself at all times.

How can I say everything I want them to know about me in 300 words?

You can’t. If the admissions committee wanted to know everything about you, they would have commissioned your autobiography! A short essay is designed purposely to force you to filter and choose the most important experiences and aspects of your life. Short essays in response to pointed questions (”what are your career goals?” etc.) are often harder to write than 2-page personal statements, and you should ensure that every part of your essay - indeed, of your application - conveys something significant and distinctive about you, in the most efficient and personal manner possible.

Q93.completed my engineering in electronics with agg of 78 from NIT, Allahabad in 2005 and have got 1.5 year of work experience in Motorola (mostly as applicaion tester). But i wanna pursue MS in VLSI. my GRE score is 1320(800/520). What are my chances of getting into a reputed institute in US? what are the colleges i should target for the same and chance of getting aids?Apart from US, where else can i consider for pursuing MS in VLSI, with good future prospects?
is this GRE score okay or should i consider retaking it? Please suggest.

thanx in advance..
uttam
A93.Your GRE score seem to be OK, however it may not be competitive in the top colleges. You can still apply to some reputed colleges like RPI, Virginia tech, Georgia Tech etc. US is the best destination in terms of VLSI so I would suggest you concentrate there. Refer to http://www.manyaeducation.com/universities_abroad/university.php?country=USA for a listing so you may shortlist a few.
Q92.phD in marketing
hi
i read through a couple of schools that said their b school programs needed a gmat. so i ve booked that for next month. now i see gre a lot more common. could someone please tell me if a gmat would be a disadvantage for a phD in marketing?
also please share the usual gmat score necessary to get into a good enough school (im looking at Warton and the likes)
A92.Usually GMAT is not required for PhD unless its specified. In case where it is; you must give GMAT. GRE is a standard requirement for MS and PhD. I don’t think taking GMAT would be a disadvantage in any way. Top colleges are looking for 1520+/1600. I recommend you refer to http://www.manyaeducation.com/programs_and_careers/ms_phd/programs_ms_phd_articles.php to get a hang of PhD program in general.
Q91.Undergraduate: Economics - GPA 83/100; rank 3/47 (International University);
- Undergrad Majors: Mathematical Economics / Finance
- GRE: Q780 V500
- TOEFL iBT: 108
- Teaching Experience: Time Series Econometrics, Mathematical Economics (Undergraduate Courses)
- Work experience: 2 years as a Quantitative Analyst in the Economics Research Team in a stock brokers firm. Last 2 years as a Project Manager in the Structured Products Department in Colombia’s largest commercial bank.
A91.You have an impressive portfolio, however your challenge lies in presenting your application and achievement in the best possible way you can. I don’t think you require GMAT(unless you are trying for an MBA). I recommend you visit http://www.manyaeducation.com/programs_and_careers/ms_phd/programs_ms_phd_articles.php ofr ino. on PhD.
Q90.chools that require the GRE subject test?

Are there any schools that require or even recommend the economics GRE?
A90.Most schools simply specify you to take GRE subject tests in the area in which you plan to pursue your higher education. GRE economics would be required if you are pursuing MS Economics or related area. For details on GRE subject tests refer to http://www.manyagroup.com/modules.php?name=20b3_Gre_Preparing

A85.There are plenty of options for CS graduate in academics, research and industry. It depends on what you want to do. If you are interested in Research, teaching etc MS is a good option, you can always do an MBA either along side or later. You can refer to http://www.manyaeducation.com/gre/gre_main.php for GRE and http://www.manyagroup.com/modules.php?name=20c4_Gmat_Preparing for GMAT.

i am doing my btech 3rd er in biotechnology. i want to know whether Ms in biotechnology is having better jobs or MBA in biotechnology is having better jobs in US so that i can prepare for GRE OR GMAT basing on the oppurtunities.

if i get good score in GRE and got in top universities then basing on this score can i do MBA by quitting MS or should i take an MBA exam again in US.

i also really want to know whether biotechnology is having good job oppurtunities and good future.

plzzzz tell me in what way we can settle in biotechnology by getting good jobs in short period i.e. within 3 years after completition of
A 84.Hello, I would suggest doing a MS in Biotechnology as it is an upcoming field and there is a shortage of professionals and researchers in the area. Once you have done your MS you can follow it with a MBA if you are interested in a management career rather than research. Either way MS or MBA you will manage to find a job as there are plenty of opportunities. I suggest you you have a look at http://www.manyaeducation.com/gre/gre_main.php for GRE and http://www.manyaeducation.com/gmat/gmat_prep.php for GMAT.

A.78.It is almost impossible to find Universities in USA offering an MBA without GMAT/GRE. However I know The Princeton Review has certain partnership Universities that may allow you to waive it off if you apply through them. Q77.i have got 70% marks in Q1.Btech and 1350 score in GRE . Will I get a good US university for doing MS in electronics .I would also appreciate if somebody can send a list of good US universities in Electronics for doing MS
A77. You have above average score and academic record. You should go ahead and apply but keep in mind your admission into MS-EE depends greatly on quality of research/projects etc done in electronics. You should first get in touch with the professors of the department and then follow through with their suggestions. For a lits you can refer to http://www.manyaeducation.com/universities_abroad/university.php?country=USA
